Defect report -read only files

On Windows NT,
Opening a read-only file gives no obvious warning.
Attempting to save the file results in dialogs being annuniciated, but with
most of the text truncated so the user cannot see the text in the dialogs.
 
My NT Display properties are 1024 by 768 pixels, large fonts.
