Whatever the outcome from this debate, the collective goal is conformance to HTML 5, compliance with WCAG, improved accessibility and enhanced user experience. Currently there is a degree of dissonance between how individuals see each of these goals being reached and also at what node in this hierarchy each of these elements sit. FWIW I would put the last two at the top of this hierarchy and wish to note that the creation of accessible websites that are usable by a very wide audience, and can provide a positive user experience is possible without conformance or compliance to either.
