Received today from new EO participant Scott Hollier... ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Scott Hollier <Scott.Hollier@mediaaccess.org.au> Date: Mon, Feb 8, 2016 at 2:10 AM Subject: Feedback - Planning and Managing To: Sharron Rush <srush@knowbility.org> ... The document looks great, the only one bit of feedback I wanted to see if the EOWG would consider is in the Initiative – Learn the Basics where there’s a point “Set up assistive technology demonstrations.” I was wondering if it were possible to expand this, or include as an additional point, trialling the use of assistive technology. It’s been my experience that showing demonstrations have some impact, but actually getting someone to try using a screen reader, pointing device, screen magnifier etc. themselves really helps them to realize the challenges and significance of the process. In the course I teach we get the students to use a really basic screen reader and just try doing three basic tasks. Whether they succeed or not, from that point on they really understand the issues in a way that is more effective than a demo. Given that most computers and mobile devices have accessibility features built in, I think the resource would benefit from encouraging people to actually try experiencing the web in a different way at this very early stage of the resource - not to beocme a user or expert, but just to understand how it works on a person level and reinforce that the web can work differently for different people. We kept speaking about Thursday's meeting but of course it was Wednesday here in Central Texas when you all met without me and co-chair Brent Bakken who shared my misunderstanding. I am disappointed since I was so looking forward to catching up with you all! But moving forward, first let me say thanks a million for your interest and for being understanding of my tripping over the international dateline. Shawn reported on the meeting and helped us understand what might be most useful as followup. With that in mind, we updated < https://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/wiki/EOWG_Current_Projects> with more specific status of the items under "Current work Q1 2016". Please let us know if you have additional questions about those. If you're ready to jump in now (as I hope you are), here are a few things to start with: 1. Planning and Managing Web Accessibility < http://w3c.github.io/wai-dynamic-planning/> is taking shape and your input would be very timely. Please complete the weekly survey at: <https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/35532/EOWG15Jan2016/> *Let us know if you can complete that survey by Wednesday 27 January*, or later next week. 2. You may want to take a quick look at Developing Organizational Policies < https://www.w3.org/WAI/impl/pol> and Improving the Accessibility of Your Website < https://www.w3.org/WAI/impl/improving > There will be a survey for those posted in the next couple of days. 3. QuickRef redesign <https://w3c.github.io/wai-wcag-quickref> It's almost done! We don't expect any new issues at this point; however, if you have any, please submit them as soon as possible. You can submit them through GitHub or e-mail to <wai-eo-editors@w3.org>. I have included the mailing lists below and hope you won't hesitate to reach out with questions or comments about how participation works. My understanding is that we are going to continue to recruit Asia/Pacific participation and look for a monthly date to meet regularly. In the meantime, you can stay current on the EO meetings wiki page , https://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/wiki/EOWG_Meetings> and by reading the summary and/or minutes of the weekly teleconference. Thanks again and next time, I swear I will get the date/time worked out correctly. Best, Sharron (on behalf of both Brent and myself) --- EOWG mailing lists: * main EO list: <w3c-wai-eo@w3.org> - goes to everyone, including all active EOWG participants and about 100 list lurkers. Is publicly-archived. * EO editors list: <wai-eo-editors@w3.org> - goes to the chairs and editors. Use for things that all of EOWG list might not need in their in-box, but that we do want publicly-archived. Is publicly-archived. * EO Chairs list: <team-eowg-chairs@w3.org> - goes to Sharron, Brent, Shawn, Shadi. Is not publicly-archived; archive can only be seen by W3C staff. -- Sharron Rush | Executive Director | Knowbility.org | @knowbility *Equal access to technology for people with disabilities* -- Sharron Rush | Executive Director | Knowbility.org | @knowbility *Equal access to technology for people with disabilities*
