How simple can a policy be? and WAI-ARIA

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your comments on the policy document. I wanted to respond on a couple of your points.

1. "The 'simple policy' examples references WCAG 2.0, but the following text suggests starting simple and then expanding, including referencing standards! Maybe we should simplify the example further?"

There are a couple of things with this that might be relevant. Firstly, I think Shawn may be taking a look at the introduction to this document, which may change this structure a bit. At the moment the in-page navigation is presented twice, which isn’t ideal. So the problem may disappear. If it does not disappear, I guess the question is could a policy be as simple as:

ACME Inc. is committed to ensuring that its website is accessible to people with disabilities. Any issues should be reported to accessibility@acme.inc.

2. "The Reference Standards section does not include WAI-ARIA”. WAI-ARIA is indeed important for web devs but on discussion with Shadi, we felt this standard was more akin to HTML5 or CSS. It was is not so much a guideline on accessibility, like WCAG, but more technical standards that can be used to improve the accessibility of content (when used correctly!). On that basis, it is not really something that would be pulled out specifically in an accessibility policy as something that should be conformed with.

Happy for your thoughts on either of these topic,

Thanks

Kevin
