Re: eval tools search thoughts

Hi Shawn,

Sorry, only got round to this now. I like your suggestions, some comments below. I am happy to briefly talk about these by phone.

Will play with the CSS bar with buttons/tabs across the top. However, I'm unsure about all the checkboxes being selected by default: it makes it hard to easily "find a tool in French". We may need to have "toggle all on/off" options but I am unwilling to take on more features without at least moaning. Let me know what you think.

I like that idea, it uses up the space available on the right hand side. Personally I like the second one more because the longer and probably more often used list, "languages", is on the left and closer to the top in reading order (visually or by voice). But this is your call, I am happy to implement your suggestion.

Interesting. I thought that by adding an indent to the checkboxes, it visually creates a grouping that is easier to skim/skip. Especially now that we will be shortening the descriptions to something like "languages". What is wrong with having indents?

Also, I don't understand "make so wraps as hanging indent". Do you mean the text after the checkbox should not wrap below the checkbox but with a slight indent? That makes sense but not sure if that is what you actually mean to say.

Sorry, missed that. Was busy launching the ET TF...

OK, I'll give it a stab.

I was thinking of keeping log of "most frequently used criteria" in the advanced page and moving these into the simple page. But again, too little time. Anyway, I do think that developers are increasingly looking for tools that do proper XHTML and CSS testing and this is something we may want to promote. On the other hand, most developers indicate XHTML even though the tool really only does HTML...

Best,
 Shadi
