Hi all, I took an action on the last call to "look at notes in GL and determine if they are sufficiently explained in the implementing doc" http://www.w3.org/2013/07/11-ua-minutes.html#action01 Version of the document that I used: http://www.w3.org/WAI/UA/2013/ED-IMPLEMENTING-UAAG20-20130701/ In my opinion... (A) the intent of the following notes are NOT properly covered in the Implementing doc: - 1.1.1 - 1.1.2 - 1.1.4 - 1.1.6 - 1.6.2 But maybe the note can just move to the Implementing doc...the SC already says "if offered" which covers the reason for the note - 1.8.12 - 1.9.1 But maybe the note can be removed since it just talks about a small part of the defined term "important elements" - 3.2.4 - 5.1.1 But note may be unnecessary - 5.1.2 - 5.1.3 In almost all cases, all that's needed is a sentence or short paragraph starting with "The note..." e.g. for 1.1.4: "The note acknowledges that there are cases in which the user agent is not able to use more of the screen to render the alternative content. For example, the user agent may already be using the entire screen or the user agent may be embedded in another user agent such that it must render itself within a fixed area of the screen). In these cases, the only way to render the alternative content so that it does not overlap the primary media and does not obscure the controls is to reduce the size of the primary media." (B) the intent of the following notes are reasonably covered in the Implementing doc: - none (C) Other things I noticed in doing this: - 1.1.1: The intent-note should be reworded since it reads as a normative statement tangential to the SC - 1.2.1: there is an outdated intent-note - 1.3.1 has 3 intent-notes that maybe should just be paragraphs? - 1.8.7: intent-note is covered by SC 1.8.12 - 1.9.1: Style of note is different from others. - 2.1.4: Intent-note needs a new para - 3.2.4: Style of note is different from others. - 5.1.3: "The user should be able to easily discover detailed information about the user agent's adherence..." seems to imply an additional requirement - "Applicability Notes:" used to be used a lot, but now appear in only one place in the doc (GL 2.11) so the construct should be removed.
