Standards for kiosks and "closed systems" have minimum font size requirements: EN 301 549 (Europe and Australia); CSA B651.2 (Canada); Section 508 (US); Air Carrier Access Act (US). Design guidelines from Apple and Google recommend minimum font sizes for apps. Websites and software must allow users to resize text. WCAG and other standards do not set a minimum base font size before resizing, but avoiding tiny text naturally helps all users. One could look at the closed system standards and app guidelines as inspiration for a typography design system on any platform.
