Re: Details/Summary & Video Transcript

One of the main issues in using the details/summary element is that if you put a heading in the summary element – a useful and valid pattern – JAWS won't announce the heading or add it to the headings list:

I'm surprised that the hassel inclusion blog post doesn't mention this while discussing JAWS support.

I really like this option as no javascript required and it’s just plain vanilla HTML. But I’m not sure about the accessibility implications. This blog post from 2019 shows there are some NVDA issues, and no IE support. (https://www.hassellinclusion.com/blog/accessible-accordions-part-2-using-details-summary/) I’m okay with no IE support as that’s a small small fraction of our user base, and it shows shows the content *not* collapsed in the div.

Does anyone know if the missing state change issue has been addressed in nvda? This makes it look like perhaps it was fixed: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/8631

Is there any issue too with presenting the video transcript in a collapsed div? It would be labeled as such so a sighted user or someone using a screen reader could open and consume the transcript if they wanted to.
