You're the one that said "this does not meet success criterion 1.3.1". 
Just wanted to clarify that, as far as I'm aware, this does not fail 1.3.1.

It fails 3.3.2 once the placeholder isn't visible anymore. Once there's 
any text in the form field, the placeholder text isn't visible anymore, 
and therefore there is no visible label provided anymore. Some

Well, the generic accname calculation spec is...generic. Glad you found 
the more specific reference in the html mapping documentation, which 
does nonetheless confirm that placeholder falls under the "any other 
attribute..." part of the more generic spec.

Still not convinced it fails 1.3.1, and 3.3.2 fails for all 
visual/sighted users once there's some value given in the form field (as 
then there's no visible placeholder anymore that was acting as the 
label). Yes, 2.5.3 will pass though.
