Call for Review: Evaluation and Report Language (EARL) 1.0 Schema Working Draft

Dear WAI Interest Group Participants,

An updated Working Draft of Evaluation and Report Language 1.0 Schema (EARL
1.0 Schema) was published on 27 September, 2006. The Evaluation and Repair
Tools Working Group (ERT WG) [1] invites you to comment on this document:
  <http://www.w3.org/TR/EARL10-Schema/>

The Evaluation and Report Language (EARL) is a standardized format to
express test results. The primary motivation for developing this language
is to facilitate the exchange of test results between Web accessibility
evaluation tools in a vendor neutral and platform independent format. It
also provides reusable vocabulary for generic Web quality assurance and
validation purposes. An overview of EARL is available for more background:
  <http://www.w3.org/WAI/intro/earl.php>

This document, EARL 1.0 Schema, defines a set of vocabulary to express test
results. It meets the requirements specified in the Requirements for the
Evaluation and Report Language 1.0 [2], and incorporates change requests
received since the 9 September 2005 Working Draft [3]. While this document
focuses on the technical details of the specification, a companion
document, EARL 1.0 Guide will describe the motivations for EARL and provide
a tutorial introduction to its use. The document How WAI Develops
Accessibility Guidelines through the W3C Process describes the milestones
and opportunities to contribute to W3C Working Drafts:

The Evaluation and Repair Tools Working Group (ERT WG) encourages feedback
about this document, EARL 1.0 Schema, by Web developers and researchers who
have interest in software-supported evaluation and validation of Web sites.
In particular, the group is looking for feedback about how complete the
schema is, and how compatible it is with relevant metadata vocabularies in
this field. Specific questions are also highlighted within the sections of
the document. Please send comments to the (publicly visible) ERT WG mailing
list by 25 October, 2006:
  <public-wai-ert@w3.org>

Please let us know if you have any questions. Additional information on the
ERT Working Group is available at:

Note: This message may be circulated to other lists, avoiding
cross-postings where possible.

Thank you in advance for your comments.

Regards,

  Shadi Abou-Zahra - W3C Chair and Team Contact for ERT WG
  Judy Brewer - Director, Web Accessibility Initiative, W3C
