Hello All, Thanks to all who gave feedback during our beta on our Captioning Solution for Flash. -rob yonaitis ---For immediate release--- Hi-CaptionT SE For Use With MacromediaR FlashT Provides Solution For Captioning Macromedia Flash Movies And Presentations Hi-Caption SE delivers a multimedia captioning management solution for Macromedia Flash Software Concord, NH -May 29, 2003-HiSoftware, Inc. today announced the release of Hi-Caption SE for use with Macromedia Flash, which will provide multimedia developers worldwide with a comprehensive solution for managing the multimedia captioning for their Flash projects, in complete conformance with standards mandated by Section 508 of the federal government's Rehabilitation Act, as well as the international accessibility guidelines set forth by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Amendments mandates that federal agencies ensure that all electronic and information technologies purchased, maintained or developed meet the accessibility standards established by the U.S. Access Board. Although federally mandated, state governments and private organizations can also benefit by adhering to these standards, which enable access and usability by the widest possible audience. In order for multimedia to be accessible under Section 508 Rule (b) and W3C WCAG 1.0 Priority 1 checkpoint 1.4, developers must create synchronized captioning for media files. Hi-Caption allows for fast and efficient creation, editing, and testing of the captioning of multimedia. The captioning file is stored in an XML captioning file. The Hi-Caption SE XML file allows for the embedding of multiple languages, which can then be selected dynamically by the user who is viewing the captions. This Hi-Caption SE XML file contains the captioned text and the timing sequence, and optionally the names of the speakers in the presentation. Just as you would rather use a web editor to create web files, Hi-Caption allows you to easily create the XML captioning file, without having to learn the code behind it. Hi-Caption also supports captioning multimedia files in multiple languages so that they audience may select and view captioning in the language of their choice. The Hi-Caption Viewer component for use with the Macromedia Flash Software provides drag-and-drop integration with the Flash Developer Environment. Developers can simply "drop on" the Hi-Caption Viewer component, set the properties, and then can provide closed captioned media to their site visitors. No knowledge of ActionScript is required. This is useful for training, accessibility, multi-language delivery of content and more. "Macromedia is deeply committed to helping customers create rich, engaging and accessible experiences on the web. Hi-Caption for Flash makes it significantly easier for our customers to add in synchronized equivalents for audio. This is a very exciting announcement for Macromedia and our customers," said Bob Regan, Senior Product Manager of Accessibility for Macromedia Corporation. Hi-Caption SE provides users with the ability to create, test and mange captioning for their Flash productions. Features include the following: - Load Windows Media, Real Player Files or Flash Movies from Local System or the Internet for easy captioning - Collaborate with other users via the Internet or Network File System - Create transcripts with the press of a button from your captioned work - Create and share projects - Support for WCAG 1.0 Priority 1-3, Full Section 508, CLF, and any derived from WCAG "Hi-Caption SE will assist Flash media developers in creating presentations that will be fully available to end-users regardless of technical or physical abilities," according to Robert B. Yonaitis, CEO and President of HiSoftware Company. "As more and more developers understand the importance of accessible Web design, they will realize that it is within their grasp. We believe that their efforts will significantly improve the quality of the web for all. We are pleased to add the accessibility capabilities of Hi-Caption SE to Flash developers."
