For your information. Those who have RealPlayer and a fast Internet connection, can listen to a presentation titled "Seeing with Sound: Wearable Computing for the Blind" at the RealPlayer streaming video URL ("ram file") http://www.nordic-interactive.org/nic2001/ram/meijer.ram from the recent NIC-2001 conference in Copenhagen. The slide views were not included in this video recording, so it actually makes for a kind of "audio-only video". No advantage in being sighted here, which I suppose makes it more appropriate for this list. You will notice that at the beginning of the talk, the slides were not even showing in the actual presentation. Also, the room acoustics of course washed out much of the auditory detail in the soundscape examples. Please note that the presentation was in this case for a sighted audience interested in interactive multimedia, so that affected various choices made for the content of the talk. I hope you do not mind too much about that. The software discussed is available for free from the web page URL below, and is meant for use in combination with a webcam and stereo headphones. Best wishes, Peter Meijer Seeing with Sound - The vOICe http://www.seeingwithsound.com/winvoice.htm Regards Steve, mailto:srp@bigpond.net.au.
