Dumb Question about Recent Email

Who is Marshall McLuhan and what does the letters of "QED"
expand to in the context of this discussion?

The Subject: line has confounded me since it first appeared,
and I have no idea what it is referring to.  (Note that I
view this as a lapse in my own understanding and not as a
true "accessibility" problem per se.)
