RE: Accessibility Authentication - WCAG 2.2 status update

Hi Wilco,

I think you are right, they are equivalent without the middle bit.

My only concern is that the current form is very explicit in what the solutions are:

  * Have an alternative form of authentication, and/or
  * Have a support mechanism for that form of auth.

If we remove “at least one other authentication method is available that does not rely on a cognitive function test”, I can imagine a lot of people getting the impression it is requiring support mechanisms, and we’d end up putting a note underneath to the same effect.

I’m very close to it though, does anyone have fresh eyes/brain for this SC?

Cheers,

-Alastair

Hey Alastair,
It strikes me that if an authentication process has both cognitive function test, and a test that is not a cognitive function, it does not "rely on" the cognitive function test. It seems the following requirement is identical to what has been proposed:

> For each step in an authentication process that relies on a cognitive function test, a mechanism is available to assist the user in completing the cognitive function test.

We use the phrase "rely solely on" in 1.3.1 Sensory Characteristics. It seems to me that if it's sufficient there for people to understand what that means, it would be okay here too.

Not a blocker, just my 2 cents.

Hi everyone,

This is the first of several status updates on WCAG 2.2, essentially a notification of soon to be CFCed criteria.

Accessible Authentication:

The SC text has changed since the first draft, as has the definition for cognitive function test.

All the open issues have been closed:
https://github.com/w3c/wcag/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aclosed+label%3A%223.3.7+Accessible+Authentication%22

(There is one open issue, which is for consideration for WCAG 3.0.)

Please reply to this email if you have any concerns about the success criterion.

Kind regards,

-Alastair
