I've mapped the three concepts to schema.org ontology here:

   - Compose:  http://schema.org/WriteAction - The act of authoring written
   creative content.
   - Edit: http://schema.org/UpdateAction - The act of managing by
   changing/editing the state of the object.
   - New: http://schema.org/CreateAction - The act of deliberately
   creating/producing/generating/building a result out of the agent.

...so we *can* express the nuanced difference between the 3 using that
ontology at least. Remember that Compose is not the same as create, as it
is limited to written content - a.k.a. WriteAction. However, 'New' (a.k.a.
CreateAction) is more general, and you can 'create' anything (including a
New email), but also a new photo or graphic file.
