RE: Assistance in monitoring WAI-IG list

Sold! The pay is lousy, but it’s an easy job! ☺

Alan indicated willingness earlier and I’m not sure if Mike was expressing interest or just curiosity. As many people on WCAG that want to do this can (and even if you aren’t “officially designated” any WG member can raise related information to the WG at any time) but we just wanted to have 2-3 people who would be willing to view this as a small part of their participation in the group, allowing the rest of the group to stop laying awake at night wondering if there is anything going on with the IG list.

One thing that we would like to avoid is adding the GL list to an IG thread, so if there is an interesting item please raise it with the WCAG group in a separate thread.

Thanks,
AWK

Alan, Mike, and anyone else interested: The IG list is the general web accessibility discussion list. You can find out more about the list at http://www.w3.org/WAI/IG/#mailinglist including how to subscribe.

What would be involved is signing up for the list, reading the messages every few days or as often as you like, and bringing significant ideas and conversations to either the group’s or the chairs’s attention. Shouldn’t be heavy lifting at all, and ideally would be an enjoyable excuse to tune into the community discussion.

The list gets all kinds of topics. If there was a thread on “what is a good alt for an image?” we’d probably not be very interested, but if a thread on challenges meeting SC 4.1.2 when using the ARIA role for sliders on mobile devices, a quick note to the WCAG GL list “hey, there’s a long and interesting discussion on WAI-IG on ….” would help make sure that people doing work on mobile techniques could know about it and either engage or mine it for useful information.

Make sense? Any takers?

Thanks,
AWK

WCAG members – Josh and I would like to delegate a couple of WCAG members to keep an eye on the discussion on the IG list and raise new and important issues being discussed with the chairs and the WG.

Any volunteers?

Thanks,
AWK
