In HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.1 and moreover in all of the languages recommends by w3c the elements possess already they semantical scope. Therefore, for example, use a <div> or a <span> (asemantical element) for mark a title or a citation is a violation of validity of code according to the relative recommendation.
