(I sent the following to WCAG's comment list. I'm suggesting we use this for ATAG 2.0's Guideline A.2.2 to cover media in the tool's CHROME) BTW: We should also think about changing the name of the gudeiline from: Guideline A.2.2 [For the authoring tool user interface] Display synchronized alternatives for synchronized media. to: Guideline A.2.2 [For the authoring tool user interface] Provide alternatives for time-based media BEGINNING OF MESSAGE TO WCAG COMMENTS: In attempting to harmonize ATAG 2.0's "Guideline A.2.2 [For the authoring tool user interface] Display synchronized alternatives for synchronized media" with WCAG 2.0's "Guideline 1.2 Time-based Media: Provide alternatives for time-based media" I found the WCAG guideline confusing because it's bold labels mix the media types to be made accessible (e,g,"Audio-only and Video-only (Prerecorded):") with the ways this can be done (e.g. "Sign Language"). I think it makes the most sense to follow the lead of WCAG Guideline 1.1 and focus on the original media since that's what content authors will have in front of them. NOTE: The proposed changes are purely organizational and are not intended to modify any normative requirement. ----------------------------------------------------------- LEVEL A: NOTE: Guideline 1.2 does not apply to any media that act as a *media alternatives for text* and are clearly labeled as such. *Prerecorded Media:* *Audio-only* - A *text alternative* is provided. *Video-only* - Either: + a text alternative is provided or + an audio track is provided that presents equivalent information. *Synchronized Audio and Video* - *Captions* of the audio are provided. - Either: + a *full text alternative for synchronized media including any interaction* is provided or + *audio descriptions* of the video are provided. ----------------------------------------------------------- LEVEL AA: *Prerecorded Media:* *Synchronized Audio and Video* - *Audio descriptions* of the video are provided. *Live Media:* *Synchronized Audio and Video* - Live *captions* of the audio are provided. ----------------------------------------------------------- LEVEL AAA: *Prerecorded Media:* *Video-only* - A *text alternative* is provided. *Synchronized Audio and Video* - *Sign language interpretation* of the audio is provided. - *Extended audio description* of the video is provided. - A *full text alternative for synchronized media including any interaction* is provided. *Live Media:* *Audio-only* - A *text alternative* is provided. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jan -- Jan Richards, M.Sc.
