Protocol Action: Uniform Resource Locators for Z39.50 to Proposed Standard

The IESG has approved the Internet-Draft "Uniform Resource Locators for
  Z39.50" <draft-ietf-uri-url-irp-05.txt> as a Proposed Standard. This
document is the product of the Uniform Resource Identifiers Working
Group. The IESG contact persons are Keith Moore and Harald Alvestrand.

Technical Summary

The Z39.50 protocol is a search/retrieval protocol primarily used in
the library community. One earlier version of this protocol was the
basis for the formerly popular "WAIS" service.

This document specifies an URL format for accessing two types of
 Z39.50 resources:

	- Z39.50 sessions, in the style of the "telnet" URL
	- Z39.50 retrievals, in the style of a "search" URL

Working Group Summary

The document was reviewed by the former URI working group, with no
objections. The document was also reviewed by the Z39.50 Implementors
Group, which is not an IETF WG, but is quite confident that the Z39.50
 stuff is right.

Protocol Quality

This specification was reviewed for the IESG by Harald Alvestrand.
