Through UMass/Center for Intelligent Information Retrieval, Jeff Gelbard is working on GILS-aware software, based on Ameritech's WinPAC client, that implements Z39.50v2 search and retrieval. This software would be bundled as an external protocol, e.g., via OLE in Windows, in WWW browsers such as NCSA Mosaic. This is in testing now, so please advise of any GILS-compliant servers that have databases to test against. We are also interested in including the ability to form a spatial search, as was done in the WinWAIS client. However, it needs to be in the form of a DLL or VBX and my support person for the WinWAIS client is long gone.
