Dear Webmaster, As you may have heard, Lycos, the largest catalog of the Internet, is now Lycos Inc. Before you get the wrong idea, let us reassure you: Lycos will remain free. We have no intention of ever charging for searches. Frankly, we feel that doing so would be counter to net culture. What we do want to do is to provide better service to the citizens of the Internet. That's where you come in. We need your suggestions, comments, complaints, etc. As a webmaster, you are more likely to have informed opinions about services and products relating to the net and the web. We would love to hear any comments you would like to make. One new free service we are preparing to offer is a Lycos search form for your site with a graphic link back to your site. Obviously, you could just build your own search form for any of the search engines, and indeed some sites have already done this. What we are providing is something extra: the link back to your site. When a user searches Lycos from your site, the results page will contain your icon as a link back to a page you specify. This means that you can offer the full power and convenience of a Lycos search page without worrying that your users will wander off and never come back. With your icon always present for the user, even when Lycos is being used, it makes Lycos a virtual extension of your own pages. If you are interested in this service, you can register easily by filling out the registration form at: http://www.lycos.com/backlink-registration.html You will need to give us your name and email address, the name of your organization, the URL for the link back to your site, and the URL for a small icon to be used for the link. Icons must be 60x60 pixels or smaller; icons that are larger will be scaled to fit within that area. After you register, you'll be sent the HTML for your backlink form and full instructions. We will do whatever it takes to make Lycos the best service it can be. We hope you'll help us with your suggestions and comments. Thanks. --Michael Mauldin <fuzzy@lycos.com> --John Leavitt <webmaster@lycos.com> Chief Scientist Director, Product Development Lycos, Inc. Lycos, Inc.
