I would like to jump and state that I developed the very first semantic web tool (VisioDAML). I was the program manager for the DARPA Markup Language (DAML) integration effort while working for BBN in 2000. DAML was the direct precursor to OWL. It was difficult for domain specialists to read and understand the DAML rdf notation, so I created a one-to-one visual representation of the rdf statements used to represent a specific ontology. That made it much easier for subject matter experts to understand their ontology, and it made it easy for the oncologists to spot errors in their rdf representation. When DAML transitioned into OWL I updated the visual representation (VisioOWL). VisioOWL (1) was used by many early authors in their presentations related to the SemanticWeb.
