Hi all, this is not specific to Evelina's request (and I wish her every success), but about surveys posted to groups like this. I receive a lot of requests like this, to fill in some survey form (often a google doc) that has no explanation of how the results will be used, whether there is a privacy policy for the information gathered and indeed who is gathering what information, whether any guidelines on ethical research practices have been followed or review has been done, etc. Given that this community in particular has in two and a bit decades enabled a massive surveillance economy whose abuses and undesired impacts have brought the issues this raises to the level of ordinary conversation topic, I think it would make sense if we asked for those things as a matter of course. This means both agreeing what is reasonable, and setting expectations for people who are starting some investigation so they can find out in advance what the community expects of them. Absent that it's unreasonable to criticise someone for following a common pattern. I think it would be good to have a sense of what we think is expected, if anything. (It might also help people understand that not providing anything like this will produce a particular skew on their results because certain groups of people will not answer by default - although without a discussion we're unlikely to be able to give much idea what that will be). cheers Chaals On Sat, 28 May 2022 05:47:54 +1000, Evelina Premyanova <evelina.premyanova99@gmail.com> wrote: > Dear all, > > I’m currently doing my undergraduate degree.
