The Ontology Engineering Group at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid conducts foundational and applied research in the areas of Ontology Engineering, Knowledge Graphs, Natural Language Processing, Open Data and Open Science. The group is also part of UPM’s R&D center for Artificial Intelligence (AI.nnovation) and of the Digital Innovation Hub AIR4S, where we provide AI-based service support to industry and public administrations worldwide. As part of the rich set of national and international R&D projects where the group is involved, we are looking for postdocs, research software engineers and ontology engineers that are willing to get involved in exciting research or research support tasks as part of our group, in many of these areas. All of these positions will be available until they are filled in. Most of them are available initially for one year, and can be extended further in the future on the same project or other related projects. For further information you can contact Oscar Corcho (oscar.corcho@upm.es). We are also expecting many other positions to be available in the coming months, so if you are interested in working with us and think that your profile may be relevant for us, considering our areas of work, you can also contact us directly and we will be able to let you know when these positions are ready. Link: https://oeg.fi.upm.es/index.php/en/jobopportunities/596-contrato-cabahla/index.html Profiles that we are looking for ----------------------------------------- Each of the positions requires different types of skills, but in general, we are looking for: • BSc, MSc or PhD (depending on the position) in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics or related fields. We do not discard other backgrounds that may be relevant for some of the positions: in the past we have had group members from Biology, Psychology, Communication, Journalism, etc. • A good track record of research or development in any of the areas of interest for the group. Note that we do not just focus exclusively on scientific publications. We believe that research is more than publications, and we are interested in your activities in software and/or ontology engineering, in your work on scientific outreach, in how you have aimed at solving real problems with an impact in society, etc. • Ability to communicate fluently in English. Knowledge of Spanish is not necessary. • An excellent positive attitude towards group work, inside and outside the group. We do not understand research as an isolated task and we encourage our group members to collaborate with each other. • A good attitude towards openness and Open Science. Why joining our group? ------------------------------- The group provides an excellent multicultural environment, with PhD and MSc students, research software engineers and ontology engineers from different nationalities (many of our group members are not Spanish) and with different backgrounds. We often have visitors from other international institutions that come to our group for short periods of time to discuss with us about their research, enriching the research context of our group (now restarting after the last 18 months). Our research seminars, which happen once a week for cross-fertilisation across the different research areas of our group, are commonly held in English and provide a good way to exchange ideas and discuss about research topics and advances done in any of our work areas. In the case of PhD students, all of our PhD students are always offered the possibility of obtaining a European or International PhD. To achieve that, the student should at least spend three months during his/her PhD in another institution abroad. If funds are available, we try to get PhD students to visit external institutions every year, or attend summer schools.
