Re: AI For good

Further to Milton's suggestions and list (which if time permits you may wish to reflect upon / 'map' to Hodges' model?) this morning BBC Radio 4 [0600-0900] at 0825 BST featured an item on the following story:
Oxford University given £150m by US billionaire to found AI institute in biggest ever donation

As I 'fish' for 'evidence' for my reasoning - I note this new Inst. is IN the humanities, as with Cambridge's CRASSH:

The specificity - context of Milton's reply is clear and very helpful, but mention of the UN, governance, standards and the role of organisation's perhaps bears further examination and critique...?
So often the UN are found wanting and the uncertainties / limitations of its **rules of engagement** are very troubling (potentially resulting in genocide - Rwanda?) in respect of any anticipated use of "AI for Good".
If 'ethics' is placed in the intra- interpersonal domain (individual psychology, mental health) then the conjunction of ethics and the 'slippery slope'# is but a step-away.(Close your eyes for long enough and the slippery slope will find you.)

Standards must also apply to the world's political leaders and their mental health, competence to lead and govern.
"AI for good" may never have a beating heart, but it will need a way to assure its conceptual footprint* (reasoning - conceptual bootstrap - initial orientation ...?) with explanation an ongoing challenge of course.

#slippery slope - Bernard Williams

Hi all,

Just had a conversation with a colleague about AI for good; and how it’ll contribute to environmental protection, healthcare, etc etc.

Right now, there is a diaspora of efforts in that place, and it seems that there hasn’t yet been a movement to unify the movement within the private/public sectors. Think about the UN as an ethical “governing body.”

If a concept of operations could be developed to enable “failing fast and failing forward,” with the UN driving prioritization, I believe that we can create powerful and world-changing solutions fast.

If this is a good idea, how do conglomerate and make this happen?

Thanks
