3rd International Workshop on Semantic Audio and the Internet of Things (ISAI19) / IEEE FRUCT25

IEEE FRUCT25 International Workshop on Semantic Audio and the Internet of Things (ISAI19). Submission deadline: 16 Sept. 2019. Workshop: 7-8. Nov. 2019, Helsinki, Finland. [Apologies for cross-postings. Please forward to interested colleagues and mailing lists.]

** First Call for Contributions **

Dear All,

The International Workshop on Semantic Audio and the Internet of Things (ISAI19) provides a forum to disseminate and discuss research in the intersection of Audio and IoT. Examples include but not limited to environmental audio analysis and event detection in sensor networks and the Internet of Musical Things. We aim to bring together researchers working in Semantic Audio and IoT for the first time to facilitate discussion and partnerships in this emerging interdisciplinary field.

We invite papers, posters and demos to ISAI19 that will be held in Helsinki, Finland on 7-8 November 2019, in conjunction with the 25th FRUCT Conference.

** About FRUCT **
The 25th FRUCT Conference is organized by University of Helsinki and the Open Innovations Association FRUCT, a large regional cooperation framework that promotes open innovations of academia and industry. Participants typically come from Italy, Finland, Russia, UK, Denmark, India, and other countries. Industry is primary represented by Dell EMC, Nokia, MariaDB, Intel, Jolla, Open Mobile Platform, Skolkovo, etc. FRUCT is a sister of the IEEE ComSoc and the 25th FRUCT Conference is sponsored by IEEE Finland.

** Background and Workshop Objectives **
The field of Semantic Audio is concerned with extracting information from audio signals that is meaningful and interpretable in different applications. Music information retrieval tools, speech or environmental sound recognition, audio and music production, gaming, music education and intelligent live performance systems including smart musical instruments are a few examples among numerous applications. A wide research area with increasingly strong links to Semantic Audio is the Internet of Things (IoT). Both fields may rely on Semantic Web technologies supporting common platforms for knowledge representation or interoperability. IoT applications may exploit Semantic Audio methodologies to process audio signals produced by sensors, the main building blocks of IoT applications. This may be applied in environments such as smart buildings or smart cities for example. Conversely, Semantic Audio may benefit from IoT and its native propensity to interoperability, as in the case of the Internet of Musical Things (IoMusT), enabling new ways of producing and accessing musical content, or new ways of using audio for sensing and control in smart environments. The International Workshop on Semantic Audio and the Internet of Things (ISAI) aims to bring together scholars and practitioners working in the confluence of these fields.

** Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following subject areas:
- Audio signal processing and feature extraction in the IoT
- Environmental audio processing and analysis for the Internet of Things
- Semantic Audio for smart cities and smart environment
- Music informatics and retrieval in networked environments
- Collaborative audio content creation in networked environments
- Semantic audio description and Semantic Web ontologies
- IoT technologies in professional audio production and delivery
- Internet of Musical Things (IoMusT)
- Applications in gaming, VR/AR, entertainment, education, surveillance, wearables, etc...

** Contributions:
- Full papers (min 6 full pages and up to 12 pages)
- Short papers (min 2, max 5 pages)
- Position papers (max 2 pages)
- Poster or demo summary (min 1, max 5 pages)
All papers must include references in the allotted page limits. Please note that an author can be a coauthor of a maximum of three documents of all types.

Paper submission is via EasyChair accessible from the FRUCT submission site: https://www.fruct.org/node/374569 (LaTeX and MS Word templates are available).

All workshop papers will be published as Open Access in the FRUCT Proceedings. Full papers will also be included in IEEE Xplore and indexed by Scopus, ACM, DBLP, RSCI, Google Scholar. Proceedings of the FRUCT Conference are included in the Scimago Journal Rank. Selected papers will be recommended for CPCI indexing (Web of Science). FRUCT proceedings are included to DOAJ. In addition, in case of successful presentation and recommendation by the session chair some papers will be invited to make free of charge publication of an extended version of the paper in IJERTCS journal (indexed by Scopus).
