2nd Call for Papers: USEWOD 2016 - 6th International Workshop on Usage Analysis and the Web of Data: The diverse ecosystem of Web of Data access mechanisms

From academic to government data, from complex SPARQL queries to Linked Data Fragments, from DBpedia to Wikidata: the data sources on the Web of Data and the ways in which these sources can be created and consumed vary greatly and raise fundamental questions. These include: (a) What kind of usage is traceable for the different access mechanisms? (b) Which actionable conclusion can we draw from observed usage patterns? (c) What are the benefits and who are the beneficiaries of usage analysis and its applications; do these go beyond advertising and personalization?

The 6th edition of the USEWOD workshop will be dedicated to this fundamentally new diversity of data sources and access methods. We seek submissions on effective usage analysis of the diverse data sources ecosystem that the Web of Data has become. Apart from investigating aspects of the key recent developments affecting the Web of Data and its usage analysis, this theme relates to wider issues on the Web and in Web Science. These include data management and query processing architectures, search and recommendation algorithms, human computer interaction questions, and new fields arising from these, such as what could be termed H+CI: human-and-other-intelligences computer interaction. 

The workshop will begin with a keynote talk and a short tutorial on the diverse ways of interacting with the Web of Data. This will be followed by scientific paper presentations. A closing panel will bring together representatives from different linked data providers as well as researchers working on linked data access mechanisms.

== THE 2016 USEWOD DATASET == 

As part of the USEWOD workshop, a standard research dataset of usage data from well-recognized Web-of-Data datasets is being offered. The goal is to promote reproducible research on the workshop themes. For more information on the datasets, please see http://usewod.org/data-sets.html.

== TOPICS == 

The topics of interest include, but are not restricted to: 

•  New ways of publishing data on the Web, and implications for usage analysis.
•  Analysis of usage logs of semantic resources and applications (including but not limited to analysis of the USEWOD dataset.)
•  Statistics of usage of the Web of Data
•  Detecting trends in the use of Linked Data
•  Usage-based recommendation, personalization and adaptation of semantic web applications
•  Methods and tools for semantic analysis of classical usage logs
•  How interaction patterns on the Web can change in the future to benefit decentralisation, accessibility, usability, privacy, and business models
•  Exploiting usage logs for semantic search.
•  Data sharing, privacy, and privacy-protecting policies and techniques
•  Usage-based evaluation methods and frameworks; gold standards for evaluating web applications
•  Data-/Web-usage analyses in the context of ideas-usage analysis: data citation, webometrics and scientometrics

== SUBMISSION GUIDELINES == 

Papers should not exceed 8 pages, formatted as PDF according to the ACM SIG proceedings template (http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates). Shorter papers describing significant work in progress, late breaking results or ideas, industry papers, or discussion proposals, are also welcome. Accepted contributions will be published in the workshop proceedings (ACM WWW Proceedings Online Companion). 

Papers should be submitted no later than midnight Pacific Daylight Time on 8 January 2016, to http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=usewod2016. Accepted papers will be presented in long (20 min talk + 10 min questions) or short (10 min talk + 5 min questions) time slots.
