Overview
========

SBBD is the official database event of the Brazilian Computer Society
(SBC). It is the largest venue in Latin America for presenting and
discussing of research results in the database domain as well in other
related areas such as information retrieval, digital libraries, knowledge
discovery and data mining. In its 26th edition, the symposium will be held
in the city of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, on October 03-06, 2011.
SBBD aggregates researchers, students and practitioners, from Brazil
and abroad, for presenting and discussing recent research results related
to the main topics in modern database technologies.

Traditionally, SBBD gathers nearly 500 attendees. Besides the technical
sessions, the symposium also includes invited talks and tutorials given
by distinguished speakers from the international research community.
Additionally, SBBD comprises a Thesis Workshop, a Demos Session,
a Poster Session and several workshops co-organized with other
co-located events. This year, the co-located event will be
17th Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and the Web - WebMedia.

Symposium venue
===============

The island of Florianopolis is located in the southern state of
Santa Catarina. The island is mainly known for its stunning
coast-line, with wonderful beaches to suit every taste. The city of
Florianopolis is on the west side of the island, and its road bridge
connects the island to the mainland. Outside the city, there is a number
of small towns and villages, all with very distinct features, from the
populated tourist resorts on the north of the island to the small
Azorean fishing villages on the west coast, and the farmlands throughout
the centre of the island. A small mountain range forms the spine of the
island and provides opportunities for beautiful walks and viewpoints.

Submission instructions
========================

Submitted papers (full and short papers) will be judged by their
appropriateness for the track in which they are being evaluated.
Thus, appropriate placement of papers is important. The program committee
chair may contact the authors and suggest moving their paper to another
track in order to ensure a fairer evaluation.

Before submitting a paper authors must register its title, list of
authors, track and abstract through the submission Web page.
Papers must be submitted by deadline using the same submission site.

Full papers
===========

Full papers will be presented in the oral sessions of SBBD 2011
technical program. The papers should present interesting recent results
or novel thought-provoking ideas in any subject on databases and related
areas (see list above). Full papers submitted to all tracks must be
written in English and must not exceed 16 pages.

One major modification implemented last year submission process is
its integration with JIDM – Journal of Information and Data Management,
the official publication of the  Database Interest Group of the
Brazilian Computer Society as detailed next.

All accepted Full papers will be published in the October 2011 issue
of JIDM and the SBBD review process will be integrated with that
journal review procedure, as follows. Papers will be registered and
submitted as usual, by May 01, 2011 and May 08, 2011, respectively.
The submissions will then go through a first round of revisions and the
authors will receive their reviews by June 12, 2011. These reviews
may request the submission to be revised and the revised version must
be submitted by July 10, 2011 for another review round. The reviews
and acceptances for the revised version will be sent to authors by
August 14, 2011.

Papers that are accepted by August 14, 2011 will be published in the
October 2011 JIDM edition and presented at SBBD 2011. Papers that are
accepted after that date will be published in the February 2011 JIDM
edition and also presented at SBBD 2011.
All papers published in JIDM (http://www.lbd.dcc.ufmg.br/bdbcomp/)
will be submitted to a fast-track revision after receiving the
reviewers comments.

Best paper award

Since 1998, SBBD sponsors the Jose Mauro de Castilho (JMC) Award
for the Symposium’s best paper. FULL papers submitted to all tracks
can be considered. If the final program allows, the best paper will
be presented during an official ceremony.

Short papers
============

Short papers will be presented as posters in an interactive setting
and should present interesting and exciting recent results or novel
thought-provoking ideas that are not quite ready. Short papers
submitted to all tracks can be written in Portuguese or English and
must not exceed 8 pages.

Short papers will be published electronically and indexed by
BDBComp.Selected short papers accepted for presentation at SBBD 2011
will be invited to be re-submitted in an extended English version for
a fast-track revision and will be published in a special section of
the February 2012 issue of JIDM.

NOTE: Full and Short papers must be submitted to one of the four
tracks only: Core Database Foundations and Technology,
Knowledge Discovery in Databases, Knowledge Modeling and Management,
and Information and Data Management.
