(Apologies in case you receive multiple copies of this posting.) ============================================================= Call for Presentations and Participation Fourth Workshop on the Future of Web Search: Semantic Search Ibiza, April 17-18, 2009 http://grupoweb.upf.es/fows09/ ============================================================= This workshop is a follow-up of the highly successful workshops that took place before in Barcelona, Bertinoro and Andorra. This year the workshop will be held at the Congress Palace of Ibiza, at Santa Eularia des Riu, 20 Kms from Ibiza's international airport. The workshop will bring together several well-known researchers in the field to discuss interesting problems at the frontier of current web (re)search. The workshop represents a unique opportunity for Ph.D. students to be exposed to the current trends in the area of web search. This year the workshop will focus on semantic search. Semantic search is the collective name of methods that look at information available on the Web or within organizations beyond the level of individual words or phrases. An understanding of content at the semantic level promises to facilitate the tasks of existing information retrieval engines but it also makes it possible to aggregate, compare and reason with content as structured data. In turn this opens up the possibility to provide entirely new services such as analyzing facts and opinions across collections, making personalized recommendations by matchings interests with content, finding experts or predicting events. The methods of semantic search are diverse and cover a range of disciplines including Information Retrieval, Natural Language Processing, the Semantic Web, Databases, Information Extraction, Information Visualization and many others. If you want to participate please send email to glon@yahoo-inc.com until March 29, with a short statement of what is your relation with Web Search and why you want to talk or attend. If you want to give a talk send also a title and abstract for a 25 minutes presentation. The registration fee for the workshop will be announced later, but would include two lunches and one dinner. As usual the registration will be just to cover the direct costs of the workshop and there will be special hotel prices at a walking distance.
