(Apologies for multiple postings) Interoperability Working Days Madrid, October 10th - 11th 2005 Call for participation http://knowledgeweb.semanticweb.org/benchmarking_interoperability/working_days/ The Interoperability Working days will be a two-day event related to the benchmarking of the interoperability of ontology development tools. This email contains information both on the benchmarking and on the Interoperability Working Days. Benchmarking motivation ----------------------- There are many existing ontology development tools, and they are used by different groups of people for performing diverse tasks. Although each tool provides different functionalities, users tend to use just one tool, as they are not able to exchange their ontologies from one tool to another. The ideal scenario would be to exchange ontologies from one ontology development tool to another so as to benefit from the functionalities of these tools. However, this scenario is only possible if these tools are able to correctly interoperate. The benchmarking to be performed will have two goals: * To improve the interoperability of ontology development tools using RDF(S) for ontology exchange. * To identify the subset of the RDF(S) elements that ontology development tools can use to correctly interoperate. This will be carried out by performing interoperability experiments according to a common experimentation framework; then, their results will be collected, analysed and written in a public report, along with the best practices and tool improvement recommendations found. Experiments to be performed --------------------------- In this benchmarking activity, we will assess the interoperability between two ontology development tools using RDF(S) files to exchange ontologies. This scenario requires that the importers and exporters from/to RDF(S) of the ontology development tools work accurately to be able to exchange ontologies correctly. Therefore, the benchmarking is composed of the following evaluation phases: * Evaluation phase 1. The RDF(S) importers and exporters of the ontology development tools will be evaluated according to the same benchmark suites. * Evaluation phase 2. Once the RDF(S) importers and exporters have been evaluated, there will be a second phase that will cover the evaluation of the ontology exchange between ontology development tools. Timeline -------- The timeline for the the benchmarking is the following: September 30th Results of the RDF(S) import and export experiments October 10-11th Interoperability Working Days in Madrid November 11th Results of the ontology exchange experiments Interoperability Working Days ----------------------------- The goals of this meeting are: * To refine the benchmark suites already published at the benchmarking web page (link below) for importing and exporting RDF(S) ontologies. * To report about how different ontology tools export and import the RDF(S) test cases already available. * To perform a hands-on session for exchanging RDF(S) ontologies between tools. The meeting is organised as follows: Monday 10th: 9:00-9:30 Welcome 9:30-13:00 Presentations: How do tools import the RDF(S) Import Benchmark Suite 13:00-14:30 Lunch 14:30-17:30 Presentations: How do tools export the RDF(S) Export Benchmark Suite 17:30-18:00 Wrap up first day 20:30-? Dinner Tuesday 11th: 9:00-11:30 Improvements on the benchmark suites 11:30-13:00 Hands-on session 13:00-14:30 Lunch 14:30-16:30 Hands-on session 16:30-17:00 Conclusions and follow-up Participating in the benchmarking --------------------------------- Organisations participating in the benchmarking are expected to participate in the development of the benchmark suites and in the experimentation related to their tool. They are also expected to provide documents with the results of the benchmarking according to the structure presented in the benchmarking web page. If you want to participate in the benchmarking or have some further question about it, please contact Raúl García Castro in the following email: rgarcia ( a ) fi . upm . es . If you are attending to the Interoperability Working Days in Madrid, please confirm your attendance in advance, including the type of results you would like to present and if you will attend to the meeting dinner. Also, don't forget to bring the last version of your tools for the hands on sessions.
