Yes, that's the idea. They are not creating text nodes.

The syntax with <[...]>  somewhat reduces their usefulness, as this will 
for sure occur in embedded content sufficiently often to be a pain, as 
will }> (e.g. I found both ]> and }> in jquery and prototye.js amongst 
others).
