Question about whitespace stripping in input documents from Xavier Franc on 2006-01-10 (public-xqts-comments@w3.org from January 2006)

I notice that a test like Parenexpr-19
uses a document Tree1Child.xml
that contains whitespace.
However the test can work only if this whitespace is stripped.
But the document has no DTD or schema specified, so I
don't see how the WS could be stripped when parsing.
Am I missing something (a rule that specifies WS Stripping)?
