Well, in this particular case, what I wanted was "value='$p:episode'",
not select or an AVT. It's the fact that the expression in the option
needs *not* to be evaluated when the option is specified that causes (or
caused me, anyway) the confusion.

As to AVTs, let's assume we don't :-)

We don't have them yet and I haven't (personally) been persuaded that we
should add them.
