My understanding is that the specific issue isn't the xml-stylesheet PI in general, but xml-stylesheet with type=text/xsl. Henry's original bug posting says: The XML Core WG requests that prose be added to cover the case where an xml-stylesheet PI is present, with type other than text/css, and in particular to handle the case where type='text/xsl' or type='application/xslt+xml' Henry, am I right that the issue is xml-stylesheet with type=text/xsl? My understanding of the key reason the HTML5 WG is pushing it off is that they think it is too much work to put it in now. Therefore, I'd probably make explicit mention of the test cases Henry has already provided. My notes tell me they are at http://www.w3.org/XML/2011/11/ssTests/ but when I try to go there, I don't have sufficient privileges (and neither does Norm, so I think there is a problem here). I do note that Henry has already attached some test cases to the bug itself at https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/attachment.cgi?id=1046 though Hixie replies that we need a lot more tests. Here's my suggested rephrasing of Norm's draft: ----- The XML Core Working Group objects to the decision to mark discussion of the XML stylesheet PI with type='text/xsl' as either "RESOLVED LATER" or "HTML.next". The stylesheet PI is widely supported and has been in use for a long time. It is an important part of the browser API. Some test cases for the XML stylesheet PI with type='text/xsl' have been attached to the bug report at https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/attachment.cgi?id=1046 The XML Core WG remains concerned that the absence of a mention of support for the XML stylesheet PI with type='text/xsl' would serve to discourage users from taking advantage of the existing functionality and might set implementers on a path towards deprecating the feature. The XML Core WG feels strongly that some mention of support for the XML stylesheet PI with type='text/xsl' or type='application/xslt+xml' needs to be included in the initial HTML5 Recommendation. paul More editorial, I would: s/Core/XML Core/g and start the first sentence with: The XML Core Working Group objects... and maybe make the last sentence something more like: The XML Core WG feels strongly that some mention of support for the XML stylesheet PI with type='text/xsl' or type='application/xslt+xml' needs to be included in the initial HTML5 Recommendation. paul On 2012-10-09 09:43, Norman Walsh wrote: > Sigh. > > I'm really not sure how best to approach this.
