The XML Core WG requests advancement of
xml:id Version 1.0
available at
http://www.w3.org/XML/Group/2005/01/CR-xml-id-20050203/
to Candidate Recommendation.

The URL cited above is for the most recent Member-only
version of the specification, as of 26 January 2005 but
dated 3 February 2005 in anticipation of publication then.

The xml:id specification has been published as a Last Call
Specification on 9 November 2004. A document containing the
comments received from other WGs and the public as well as
the WG's final disposition of those comments may be found at

http://www.w3.org/XML/2004/xml-id/lc-status/status-report.html

The Last Call comments have been considered and resolved, and
a notification of the fact sent to every commenter. The XML Core
WG has not received any replies from commenters saying that our
responses were inadequate. We did receive several replies saying
our answers were fine as recorded in our DoC document (URL above).

The document being sent to CR contains the changes that were made
to accommodate these comments.

The WG's decision to request publication as a Candidate Recommendation
was taken during a teleconference on 26 January 2005, minutes may be
found at
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-xml-core-wg/2005JanMar/0???

SCHEDULE

We propose a publication date of 2005 February 3.

We propose that the CR period lasts from the date of publication
until 10 March 2005. Given the brevity of the specification and
the current existence of several implementations, we expect to
to collect the necessary implementation experience in that time.

EXIT CRITERIA

[from the spec once Norm gets that set]

PRELIMINARY IMPLEMENTATION REPORT

The implementation report is at:
http://www.w3.org/XML/2005/01/xml-id-implementation.html

PROPOSED CR TITLE, ABSTRACT AND STATUS SECTIONS

xml:id Version 1.0

Abstract
--------
This document defines the meaning of the attribute xml:id as
an ID attribute in XML documents and defines processing of
this attribute to identify IDs in the absence of validation,
without fetching external resources, and without relying on
an internal subset.

-----------------------

publication. Other documents may supersede this document. A list of
current
W3C publications and the latest revision of this technical report can be

replaced or
obsoleted by other documents at any time. It is inappropriate to cite
this
document as other than work in progress.

This document is based upon the xml:id Last Call Working Draft published

on 9 November 2004. Besides clarifications, editorial improvements, and
minor bug fixes in response to Last Call comments, this document ????.

The public is invited to send comments to the public mailing list
public-xml-id@w3.org (archive).

The Working Group is soliciting implementation reports on this draft
until
at least 10 March 2005, by which time we believe we will have sufficient

implementation experience to progress to Proposed Recommendation. Known
implementations are documented in the XInclude Implementation Report. A
test
suite is also available.
