Hi all, Harry has kindly asked us to speak about the PaySwarm standardization work at the next Social Web XG telecon, this Wednesday at 4pm UTC. Here's a quick introduction and follow-up material: What is PaySwarm? The Payswarm web platform is an open standard that enables web browsers and web devices to perform micropayments and copyright-aware, peer-to-peer digital media distribution. What does PaySwarm do? Payswarm enables people that create digital content to distribute it through the Web and receive payment directly from their fans and customers. It is also designed to help fans and customers distribute digital content on behalf of the content creators in a way that is both legal and financially beneficial to the creators, fans and customers. The technology is designed to be integrated directly into web devices, finally making legal digital content distribution a first-class citizen on the web. Further reading, for those that are interested in financial transactions in social networks: PaySwarm FAQ http://payswarm.com/specs/payswarm-faq.html PaySwarm Use Cases http://payswarm.com/specs/payswarm-use-cases.html PaySwarm reference implementation source code: http://wiki.github.com/digitalbazaar/monarch/ http://wiki.github.com/digitalbazaar/bitmunk/ Live PaySwarm site: http://bitmunk.com/ I plan to briefly cover the following topics: * The overall goal of PaySwarm * Digital Contracts and Electronic Signatures as a basis for licensing and copyright-aware digital content distribution * The typical participants on a PaySwarm network * How pricing is calculated on a PaySwarm network * A typical content transaction on a PaySwarm network I hope to spend most of the time fielding questions, answering any concerns, and discussing comments that the group may have related to the PaySwarm work. -- manu -- Manu Sporny (skype: msporny, twitter: manusporny) President/CEO - Digital Bazaar, Inc. blog: PaySwarming Goes Open Source http://blog.digitalbazaar.com/2010/02/01/bitmunk-payswarming/
