Hello, I am Monica Duke, working at UKOLN [1] and representing JISC [2]. UKOLN works with libraries in HE in the UK and also with the cultural heritage sector. Although I am a software developer by title, my time is also split between research and advisory activities. In the last ten years at UKOLN I have gained knowledge of and used the main digital library technologies, working broadly in the areas of resource discovery and interoperability (through JISC projects), with particular experience in aggregators for repositories using OAI-PMH, as well as the XML-related standards. I have had an interest in Semantic Web standards and activities since working on a joint project with Dan Brickley and Libby Miller (both then at ILRT, Bristol) in 2000. My latest work is on citation of data sets, and exporting the aggregated metadata from UK HE repositories to the TALIS platform. This is my first experience of being involved in a W3C group and of standards-making activity. I am currently trying to get up to speed and getting my bearings around the main links to information that I need to explore, in order to try and participate actively in the group. I won't always be able to take part in telcons (apologies for last week's absence) due to my working hours, but I will try and arrange to attend some and hope to find other ways to contribute.
