Hi again, having looked at the various examples that have been produced, the following questions are forming in my mind: * How explicit should the language be? Do we want to help reduce conceptual chaos by providing a structure that *forces* people to be explicit about things? Or would that make it difficult to use, so it may be better to stay vague? An example of this kind of question arises by comparing the deep XML structure [1] with the RDF structure [2] with respect to the scope of the "intensity" attribute. The flat XML structure [3] is vague about it; the deep XML structure treats intensity as being one aspect of a categorical label; the RDF structure treats intensity as a global property, at the same level or higher (not sure) than categorical or dimensional ratings. [1] http://www.iut.univ-paris8.fr/%7Elamolle/EMOXG/example_deep_emoxg.xml [2] http://www.neon.ai/docs/emoxgRDFexample.rdf [3] http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-xg-emotion/2008Jan/att-0008/example_flat_emoxg.xml Another example of a potentially explicit annotation is "confidence": are we representing a vague global confidence/probability value, or are we specifically annotating the confidence that one specific element in the annotation (say, the intensity, or the modality) is correctly represented? * How easy and practical is it to combine the various alternatives with other markup languages, such as W3C EMMA? * How modular a mechanism does the formalism provide for "plugging in" specific sets of categories, dimensions etc.? I don't expect us to have quick answers to these questions, I just thought maybe they are helpful to structure the discussion a bit.
