As not everybody knows everybody in this group, I suggest we make a short round of introductions. The participants to the phone conference will also have the opportunity to present themselves briefly there; but some written lines may be more durable, in case anyone among us does not have a perfect memory... :-) So let me start, and feel free to follow! Name: Marc Schröder Affiliation: DFKI GmbH, Germany, http://www.dfki.de Homepage: http://www.dfki.de/~schroed Short self-description: I am the initial chair of this group. In the emotion network HUMAINE, I have been responsible for the first specification of an Emotion Annotation and Representation Language. Now, I am eager to learn about other people's perspectives on this first suggestion, including critical discussions. If we want to get to a generally usable language, clearly there is a lot more brain power needed! My own research has been concerned to a considerable extent with emotional speech synthesis. In my PhD, I have proposed an approach to realising gradual states described in terms of emotion dimensions (arousal, valence, power) rather than emotion categories. Recently I have become interested in emotions in interactive systems, and specifically in simulating listener backchannel and feedback behaviour. -- Dr. Marc Schröder, Senior Researcher DFKI GmbH, Stuhlsatzenhausweg 3, D-66123 Saarbrücken, Germany http://www.dfki.de/~schroed Here. Now. Real, first-person experience. Am I there to witness it?
