No disrespect to Phillipe's hard work, but the point is to hide all of this stuff, not bring it to the fore. :) We've been able to create these kinds of mixed content documents for a long time -- even using IE. But how about creating a *simple* document, with just a few elements on it, that just happens to mix SVG buttons, videos, Flash, and so on at the point of rendering. Whilst that is also technically doable, using technologies such as XBL, we still lack a really good way language that can express the relationships between the components, and a set of rules that determine the conditions under which one component should be chosen over another. I feel that a key component of the backplane should be a 'broker' that manages this type of thing.
