The way I see it, chrome is anything that is not a: - WebView on Mac OS X - CLSID_InternetExplorer on Windows - KHTMLView on KDE - XUL:browser on Gecko/Firefox/Mozilla - $similar on $platform These are all self-contained widgets that render HTML. The chrome is what decorates these and turns them into an application. It's the glue between the user and the renderer. Content can influence this glue, but I still see it as distinct from the view.
