FW: Updated Editor's Draft of WS-Policy 1.5 Guidelines Document

Folks,

Since I did not have inputs from all editors, I decided to limit things
to somewhat a higher level narration of things, as below

instead of delaying sending this out further.

Regards,

Prasad

Subject: Updated Editor's Draft of WS-Policy 1.5 Guidelines Document
Importance: High

Folks,

The Editors are pleased to send the newest Editor's Draft of the
WS-Policy 1.5 Guidelines Document [1].

The corresponding HTML diff version that highlights the changes since
the previous editors' draft is at [2]

This is a major revision that restructured and reformatted the document
significantly primarily the result of the resolution for issue

3989 <http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=3989> . Hence the
diff document is not likely to help identify the changes as the
differences are many.

Here is a summary of the changes made to the Guidelines document in this
pass (and a description of some pending items).

1. Adapted the new format of the WWW WebArch at
http://www.w3.org/TR/webarch/ <http://www.w3.org/TR/webarch/>

Each good practice recommendation made in the document is now clearly
highlighted,

following the above format, making the good practices distinctly
identified and clearly visible

2. All sections (with exception of one pending section 5.8) had
been reformatted to follow the above format so that

	a.	Each section addresses a specific problem area / topic
	b.	Provides description / explanation of the problem
	c.	Offers one or more good practices pertinent to that
section
	d.	Provides some examples to illuminate the good practice,
where apt

3. Provides a consolidated list of all good practices at the
beginning of the document to serve as a quick reference to

all good practices identified in the document.

NOTE: The section numbers changed (bumped up by 1) from the
previous version of the document, due to the addition of the above
section.

4. Incorporated the good practices from the IBM / MS contribution
[3].

A total of 21 out 22 good practices from the above had been incorporated
and integrated into appropriate sections in the guidelines document.

One good practice G2, in the above document has an open issue 4566 [4]

5. Three (3) new good practices resulting from issues closed at
the webMethods F2F have been incorporated:

a. Good Practice #2: Assertion Semantics Independent of Attachment
Mechanisms, corresponding to Issue 4198 [5]

b. Good Practice #3: Assertion Semantics Independent of Assertion
form (Normal/Compact), corresponding to Issue 3981 [6]

c. Good Practice #28: Change of the Policy Subject Over Time,
corresponding to Issue 3987 [7]

6. The following new good practices that did not result from an
issue resolution have also been added:

a. Good Practice #1: Parts of an Assertion Specification", in
section 5.1 [ 8]

b. Good Practices #18, #19 and #20 related "Optionality" of
Assertions in section 5.6.2 [9]

7. In summary, the Guidelines Document currently contains a total
of 28 good practices, resulting from the above changes.

8. Few places where there is pending work known to the editors are
identified via explicit "Editors notes"

9. There are also a few open issues against the guidelines
document as identified in the f2f Agenda
