RE: Generation of Diffs for WS-Policy Working Drafts

Hi Asir,

That is what I was going to try also. It seems we need to tell diffmk what
sorts of changes it needs to highlight (deletions, additions, modifications
etc.). The tool is (perhaps) good but unfortunately it is not at all
documented.

So, I may need to do some trial and error, read the source code of the tool
etc. I took the default options so far.

On your point regarding "editors do not have to produce any diff document
for the first publication", I thought AI 06 from 07/26 meeting was just
that? I listed the AI detail below.

Editors to respond to Fredericks request.

<scribe> ACTION: Editors to respond to Fredericks request to have a diff
version for the WDs [recorded in
http://www.w3.org/2006/07/26-ws-policy-minutes.html#action06]

I have no issue with doing it starting next publication however.

Regards,

Prasad

Hi Prasad,

Scanning through, I am afraid these diff documents do not highlight all the
changes. Perhaps, there are some controls in the DIFFMK tool that you can
tweak.

I assume that editors do not have to produce any diff document for the first
publication. I tagged all the files that were used to build the first
publication as ‘Working-Draft-31-July-2006’. For the next publication, we
can produce diff documents by running a diff tool against the tagged
version.

Folks,

I used the diffmk program to generate the diffs of the framework and
attachment docs.

I used one of the early versions as base to compare against for both (CVS
v1.2 for framework and v1.3 for attachment).

Attached are the so called diff versions. diff-A.html is the attachment doc
diff and diff-F.html is the framework doc diff.

Do they look right? I am not so sure ☺

Regards,

Prasad

Hi,

I checked on the following Action Items and it seems the DiffMk tool at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/diffmk/

is a popular one that some folks use. I checked it out, and it seems to
work fine for me.

I can try and generate the diffs.

I will use the editors’ copies at as the current versions:

• Web Services Policy 1.5 - Framework

• Web Services Policy 1.5 - Attachment

Is there is a quick link to the version of the specs that we want to diff
these against?

Regards,

Prasad
