Meeting minutes
previous minutes
<kaz> [8]Jan-19
[8] https://www.w3.org/2021/01/19-wot-marketing-minutes.html
Sebastian: we spoke about video captions
… also we discussed about web site content. In particular, we
focused on the menu entries and the getting started page
… Ege proposed to use the lecture material that he is using for
IoT course at TUM
… any objections to publish the minutes?
… ok, minutes approved.
video
Sebastian: I'll show you the current version of the video.
… (showing the video)
Cristiano: the video is great, well done!
Sebastian: I'm really satisfied about this version of the video
… from my side it is ready to be published
… last issue is to add a watermark logo on the top right corner
McCool: I like it too
… we have to chose the thumbnail for the video
… can we choose a thumbnail for youtube?
Cristiano: yes, it is possible
McCool: the last scene is boring I like the one with wot in the
background
Cristiano: +1 from my side
<kaz> +1
McCool: maybe the watermark will not fit very well in every
frame
… if it is small it should work
Sebastian: I think it is ready to conclude the work with the
video
McCool: I'll prepare the paper work to pay the author
McCool: my main concern is that the video is promising a lot. I
hope we could deliver the same experience
<koalie> [Coralie arrives; apologizes for losing track of time
:/ ]
Sebastian: (summarize what we had discussed so far for Coralie)
sebastain: (shows a thumbnail proposal)
Coralie: I am not sure about the process to use the thumbnail
… where do you want to publish the video?
Sebastian: it is ok to publish in the main w3c youtube channel
McCool: I agree too. btw our explainer video is there.
… but it has a wrong thumbnail
Sebastian: right
Kaz: let's ask Dominique
… by the way we have to make sure that the animator is working
on the caption as well
Sebastian: first he'll finish the video with the watermark
Sebastian: youtube has a caption feature
Kaz: if the animator can provide a caption file, e.g., WebVTT
or TTML, we can ask Dom to work on that.
Website PRs
Daniel: there are two PR. The first is about the navigation bar
<kaz> [9]Welcome page
[9] https://w3c.github.io/wot-marketing/
Daniel: the home entry in the navigation bar was removed.
<kaz> [10]PR 105 - Navi updates
[10] https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/pull/105
Daniel: the second one is about the activities entry
<kaz> [11]PR 107 - feat: restructure general activities entry
page
[11] https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/pull/107
Daniel: the activity page is split in three sections.
… activities relative to task forces, general events and Web
Conference meetings
McCool: do we have content for each task force?
Daniel: yes we do
… I removed the taskforces without content
McCool: It's useful to add use cases meeting because it is the
very first point of contact with the outsiders
… you might add the dates for vF2F and PlugFest. They are
almost fixed.
Daniel: I'll do
Sebastian: in the entry page, what about adding the video here?
Daniel: good question, I would not autoplay but yes we could
try to add
McCool: Why don't you try to add it below the tweets feed?
… getting started is a little vague. It should be renamed
(i.e., documentation)
… tutorials link is also missing
Daniel: right
McCool: also I'd add a link to the spec in the documentation
page
Daniel: there's already the link in the task force pages
McCool: we could link from multiple points
… IMO Getting Started should be called Documentation and
Developers Tutorials
Daniel: about the video we have to work on it
<kaz> [12]Jeff's video thumbnail on the WoT Landing page
[12] https://www.w3.org/WoT/
Kaz: we can do something like Jeff's video thumbnail at the
left bottom of the WoT Landing page above
<Zakim> kaz, you wanted to mention use cases tf and marketing
tf
Sebastian: daniel, could you provide some options for video
position?
Daniel: At least we could have it as a tweet
… the problem is that the tweet will be moved downwards
Cristiano: I've seen video used as gif background
McCool: I think positioning it below the tweet feed it is ok
Daniel: I'll show some picture proposal
… did you merge the two PRs?
Sebastian: It is the next step
Daniel: ok I'm merging the navi update
… merging also #107
… it should be live soon
Kaz: regarding the Activities page, removing the other TFs like
Use Cases, PlugFest and Marketing is fine at the moment, but
those TFs are also very important because we discuss testing
and other issues there
… so I think those TFs should be also added soon
McCool: agree, and would like to talk about that during the Use
Cases call, etc., this week.
add TUM courses material
Sebastian: Ege kindly shared the content of its course about
WoT
Sebastian: (shows the content of one of the pdf provided)
Sebastian: there's some unrelated information
McCool: we could share them anyway if we clarify that the
material is from TUM
… of course reorganizing it as a WoT tutorial would be better
Daniel: we should ask Ege
McCool: usually course material is owned by University
… we need their permission in the end
Sebastian: agree we should talk about it with Ege
McCool: still we could integrate this work stating clearly that
it is a TUM tutorial
Sebastian: I'd merge the PR so that we have the files and later
organize in links
… ege should have also videos
McCool: there's also a course by University of Barcelona
… we could link those course in the tutorial section
McCool: wot farm would be cool to have the farm up and running
… Intel could provide a server
… it would be a nice playground to understand wot specification
Sebastian: ok. About PR 106 should we merge it?
McCool: ok
Daniel: ok
