Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a brief recap of our meeting today. It seems the
timing wasn't ideal, and attendance was lower than expected, but I
believe summarizing the progress on caniwebview could be valuable for
everyone. You can find the full notes on GitHub:
<https://github.com/WebView-CG/meetings/blob/main/2024/2024-10-25.md>
Caniwebview Updates
* Progress on Data: WKWebView was added to BCD right before TPAC,
allowing us to compare the major mobile WebViews.
* Web Features Data: Web Features data is now available on
caniwebview. Features show their baseline status and whether
WebViews affect the baseline.
* Compare Page Utility: The compare page
<https://caniwebview.com/clients/> can be a useful tool for browser
vendors and developers to compare WebViews with upstream browsers
and get a closer look at BCD data and web features.
* Inconsistent Data: We can now use the compare table to identify and
flag inconsistent data. We could use some help with styling the site
and diving into the data.
* WebViews Impact: The impact of WebViews on the baseline is now
visible at <https://caniwebview.com/clients/> under the web features
category.
Task Force
* We're forming a task force to start improving things ultimately. Our
work will start capturing behavioral differences, and eventually
back it up with surveys, data and explainers.
* We are looking for volunteers and plan on scheduling the first
meeting. Please feel free to reach out via Slack or email.
Next Steps
* Let's coordinate on the timing for our next meeting. Feel free to
suggest your availability.
* Continue working on caniwebview, data and the task force
Thanks everyone for your support and interest in improving WebViews
together.
Best,
Niklas
