@taylor-b You're right, it appears they're not! (it only says "good practice"). So immutable yes, unique not.

I also found this note in [WebRTC](https://w3c.github.io/webrtc-pc/#rtp-media-api): 

***... Doing this implies that at the receiving end of the peer-to-peer connection there are several MediaStreamTracks with an identical id."***

Though from what we now know in this thread, this is only unavoidable if SRD is called first.
