3D Secure - The worst on-line payment system ever?

I just finished an on-line credit-card payment operation using 3D Secure.

Only Europeans could possibly accept an Internet system that was developed
15 years (!) ago which has resisted any kind of improvements during this period.

The concept is actually great, but the execution is horrible which is why I'm very
keen on supporting a 3D Secure V2.
