A new W3C group just launched to propose APIs that allow for secure identity federation across domains on the open web: http://www.w3.org/community/fedid/ The work relates to the Secure Messaging (HTTP Keys) work we're doing here: https://payswarm.com/specs/source/http-keys/ I've also now talked with close to 8 different organizations from a broad set of communities that are very interested in being able to not only have an identity online, but also to annotate this identity with various pieces of information.
