Dear Web Payments Interest Group:

Happy New Year!

Since the IG was formed in October, 2014, specifications and discussions in the payment area have advanced rapidly within the W3C.  Most of that activity can be tracked back to groundwork initiated in the IG.  Our mission of identifying standardization opportunities for W3C continues to be important.

I'd like to encourage you to participate actively in the group in 2017. Below you'll find information about current activities to join and how to channel your ideas for new activities.

Our next meeting will be on January 9 at our usual time of 10:00AM Eastern Time, US (agenda will follow).

I look forward to working with you in the coming year,

David Ezell

1) REGULATORY LANDSCAPE. Jean-Yves Rossi is leading this task force to explore how regulatory issues could impact
upon an effective and efficient global deployment of the W3C's work.

For more information about this task force, see:

 2) DIGITAL OFFERS. Linda Toth is leading the Digital Offers Community Group to improve E-Commerce on the Web by
making it easier and more secure for all actors in the ecosystem to manage, distribute, use, and settle digital offers,
including coupons, vouchers, rewards, and loyalty programs.

The Community Group meets next on 9 January at noon ET.

For more information about this Community Group, see:

 3) INTERLEDGER PAYMENTS. The primary goal of the Interledger Payments Community Group is connecting
the many payment networks (ledgers) around the world via the Web.

For more information about this Community Group, see:

 4) VERIFIABLE CLAIMS. The W3C Membership is currently reviewing a draft Working Group Charter (until 15 January)
and, if supported, the Working Group would start later in January.

5) VISION TASK FORCE. What topics do you think the Interest Group should be discussing? Which ones would you like
to champion? The Vision 2017 Task Force was created[1] to review the Interest Group's Vision document [2] and develop
a proposal for Interest Group objectives and deliverables in 2017, including a revised charter for the Interest Group.
(The current charter expires on 30 September 2017.)

The Task Force plans to meet several times in January; Ian has proposed [3] January 12, 19, and 26 at 9:00am ET.
