[minutes] 2014-03-20 Webizen task force meeting

Hi all (including recent new-comers, welcome!),

The task force met yesterday.

We arranged the call 10 days ago, at a time when the participants were
only internal to W3C team, and omitted to advertise the planning on the
mailing list.

We're aiming to meet next week, Thursday 27-Mar 11am ET. Let me know,
please, if you wish to attend, so I'll make sure we reserve enough virtual
seats.

The public minutes of yesterday's meeting are at:
   http://www.w3.org/2014/03/20-webizen-minutes.html

Actions (now on the wiki: https://www.w3.org/wiki/Webizen) :
* Coralie to bring to Ted's attention any new proposed benefit that
involves systeam and seek his opinion on feasability (1) and cost (2)
* Jeff to write a proposal to write up what an electoral college would
look like.
* Veronica to figure what sort of discounts level to devcampus, VS etc.
are high-enough to attract people, but not high-enough that they give the
services away.

Review of cleaned up wiki

koalie: Three new participants (Alexandre, Amy, Ann) since our
    last meeting
... In reply to feedback I had gotten, I clarified at the top
that we're open and public, that feedback is welcome
    ... in e-mail or IRC.

<jeff> koalie: When logged in, click the star at the top right
to "watch" it. Or use view history. I've done editor work to
compile feedback thus far. Art Barstow has edited the wiki as
    well

<jeff> [Koalie gives a tour of the new webizen site]

Jeff: as we add information, we need to review it
... looking at the package of benefits... electoral college
    needs to be fleshed out

koalie: The number of views has rocketed since last week.
    Here's a progression:

    Friday 14-Mar: 2,167

    Monday 17-Mar: 5,392 5,586 5,807

    today: 10,680 views.

koalie: Here is what I suspect contributed to driving traffic:

koalie: You can see who mentioned "webizen" on Twitter. Don't
scroll down too far lest it become irrelevant to us.

koalie: yes, we got some buzz. People appear to be curious

Jeff: it would be nice to make it more interactive, know up
front when something is proposed if it's doable

Coralie: I can take the ongoing action to bring to Ted's
attention any new proposed benefit that involves systeam and
seek his opinion on feasability (1) and cost (2)

<scribe> ACTION: Coralie to bring to Ted's attention any new

feasability (1) and cost (2) [recorded in

Jeff: The action item Veronica took was related to discounts
... What sort of discounts level to devcampus, VS etc. are
high-enough to attract people, but not high-enough that they
    give the services away.

Electoral college

    [21]Strawman: Webizen Electoral College [Robin]

      [21]
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-webizen/2014Mar/thread.html#msg3

Jeff: W3M might be difficult to persuade with the proposal such
    as Robin wrote it
... if you don't mind I'll take the action item to write up a
    new one based on it.

<scribe> ACTION: Jeff to write a proposal to write up what an
electoral college would look like. [recorded in
    [22]http://www.w3.org/2014/03/20-webizen-minutes.html#action03]

Design: Active participation in W3C community or Webizen?

Veronica: This isn't quite clear if the design is to get more
    active participation or show support

Jeff: The design is the latter.
... For USD 100 we shouldn't let individuals participate in WGs
... The idea of having some representation on the AC doesn't
    seem bad to me
... Could be a very useful one.
... If we have a milion webizens and they result in 10K AC
reps, it will be a little unmanageable
... That's on the table for discussion at this point.

Next meeting

Jeff: I anticipate to have my action item done in a week's time
... and you have actions as well
... next meeting next Thursday 11am ET?
... I'll ask Maria to set up a time.

    <veronica> ok for me

    wfm

    Jeff: AOB?

    [nope]

    <veronica> thanks koalie!

    thanks veronica, jeff
